Matt Cassel Will Start For The Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys have decided to make a change to their starting quarterback, with Matt Cassel, who will start in week seven against the New York Giants after the Cowboys’ bye-week, according to Ed Werder of ESPN.

Cowboys quarterback Brandon Weeden went 0-3 with a 72.4 completion percentage and a 92.2 quarterback rating while throwing for 739 yards with two touchdowns and a pair of interceptions in the three games he started for Dallas in place of the injured Tony Romo.

The coaches have informed Weeden they will be making the change to the recently acquired quarterback Matt Cassel, whom the Cowboys received in a trade with the Buffalo Bills.

With the upcoming bye-week for the Cowboys, Cassel will have an extra week to prepare as the starter before he and the Cowboys get ready to take on the New York Giants, a division rival.

The Cowboys traded for the quarterback in late September to act as an insurance policy if Weeden were to get injured and to give Dallas another option if he faltered.

Cassel’s best season came back in 2010 with the Kansas City Chiefs, when he started all 16 games and finished the season with a passer rating of 93.0.

Since then however, Cassel has struggled to duplicate the form he once had. He was with the Bills this preseason, and he was beaten out for the starting quarterback role by former Baltimore Ravens backup, Tyrod Taylor.

With the Cowboys (2-3) sitting a full game behind the New York Giants (3-2), it was time for the Cowboys to do whatever was in their power to not let this division get away from them.
