A Bulldogs’ look at the PFL: Week 6

We are just three weeks into the 2015 Pioneer Football League Playoffs and the conference title talk is already out and about. Upsets from around the league have shaped what is sure to be one of the craziest PFL seasons of all time. Time for a Drake Bulldogs’ look at Week 6.

Entering the weekend, the standings were as follows: that saw four undefeated teams, including one of which is banned from winning the conference title.

A Bulldogs’ look at the PFL: Week 6

First off, the Bulldogs came off a loss to Campbell by defeating Valparaiso 34-7 on Saturday at Drake Stadium, moving to 2-1 in conference play.

That is where Drake got a little bit of help.

Butler was upset on the road at Morehead State, getting beaten by two scores dropping to 1-1 on the PFL season. The team also won a nail-biter against Campbell during week four, and seem to have some promise, however are not yet in the next level.

Speaking of Campbell, Drake especially needed the Camels to lose which would put Drake solely in front of them. Yet another upset took place when hard hitting Marist took down CU in a low scoring matchup. The Red Foxes have just a 2-4 record featuring small losses to the PFL’s top teams.

In Week 6’s game of the week, Dayton took down San Diego at home 13-12 in a battle of Undefeateds, leaving just one undefeated team eligible for a playoff.

Dayton now sits atop the standings followed by powerhouses in Drake and San Diego, also setting up a headlining match-up for week 7 in the PFL.

Drake Head Coach Rick Fox has stressed winning on the road in the PFL.

“You have got to dig down deep and find something extra on the road,” Fox said. “Being on the road is tough in our conference, but that’s what separates the top of the conference from the middle of the conference.”

“Top of the conference people win all of their home games and most of their away games, there has not been an undefeated conference champion since 2008,” Fox said. “We lost last week on the road, we can’t afford anymore.”
