Sunday Social: Day of the ‘Dog

In this week's installment of Sunday Social, we take a look at the reactions from a couple of big upsets. Sunday Social: Day of the 'Dog.

Sunday Social: Day of the ‘Dog – September 13th

The great thing about college football is that it never disappoints. Let’s face it, it always delivers excitement and drama. Big games, great tailgates and unrivaled tradition all play into that. But nothing gets the emotional juices going like the triumph of the little man.

And this week delivered plenty of “Little Man Heroics” from decided underdogs.

Sunday Social: Day of the ‘Dog

It started off early on the Plains, with Jacksonville State taking SEC power – and sixth-ranked Auburn – to overtime.

Most people thought the main storyline would be the brand new, biggest-in-the-galaxy Jumbotron installed at Jordan-Hare Stadium, but @pauljonesb points out the irony in watching an FCS team shred a Muschamp defense on such a big screen:

This guy clearly wasn’t happy with the Auburn performance. Pretty sure he’s NOT the opposing fan that I’m talking smack to.

And of course what is near disaster if your heated rival fan base doesn’t take a couple of jabs. Bama fan @jerrysandersRTR pointed out the … uh, resource discrepancies (?) of the two programs. I suppose barely winning against Jacksonville State might be worse than losing to Louisiana-Monroe.

Here’s my own humble contribution to the pile-on:

And while others were piling on the SEC because of Auburn’s struggles, controversial voice Clay Travis had a slightly different take:

Of course, Auburn actually won that game. What happens when an SEC team actually loses to a MAC team? Let’s go to Little Rock and find out. @Godsavetheham shows us the reaction:

It’s going to be a tough week for coach Bret Bielema after his comments about Ohio State’s schedule last week, as this tweet points out:

And these guys bid farewell to Coach Bielema’s mentions:

We know that coaches feel the pressure when underdogs keep it close. But Florida coach Jim McElwain, in a close game against East Carolina, straight-up channeled his inner-Harbaugh yesterday:

Ouch. But he might want to save his ire for this:

I’ve just got to ask, what is it with Gators blocking and tackling each other the last few years?

There’s possibly nothing worse than seeing the underdog lose in the last seconds.

Virginia fans were devastated when they let a program-defining upset get away with a deep pass in the last 12 seconds. When the “Surrender Cobra” isn’t enough, you have to go with the “Death of the Surrender Cobra”. Don’t worry, bruh, we’ve all been there before:

Of course, no Sunday Social would be complete without a look-in at Jim Harbaugh having trouble with an underdog:

Ever wonder where Harbaugh gets his kicks? I don’t know, but I know where he gets his khakis.

That wraps up another walk through the social media park on a post-game Sunday. Here’s hoping for more underdog drama next week!
