Sports. Honestly. Since 2011

Former Texans Chris Myers Retires

Early this morning, Chris Myers, formerly of the Houston Texans, announced on SportsRadio 610 that he will retire from the NFL. Myers spent ten seasons with the Texans, compiling an impressive career as a center. In the interview, Myers stated, “When you know, you know.” Although he was offered to play on several teams, like former Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher, he just didn’t have the desire to play anymore.

Anthony DiMoro of SportsRants made the early morning shoutout on Twitter.

A sixth-round draft pick out of Miami in 2005, Myers started his NFL career in Denver. He spent the first two years as a benchwarmer before starting at center for the Broncos in 2007. In 2008, Myers was acquired from the Broncos in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2008 draft. It was the beginning of a tremendous career where Myers would start every game for the next seven seasons. Myers was most recognized for his best production in 2011 and 2012, where he was named to the Pro Bowl the following seasons.

Myers was eventually released from the Texans in 2014. At one point, the Texans contacted him to return for one more year but he felt it was time to turn in his pads and hang up his cleats. However, his love for the game has not taken him far away from it. He was hired by SportsRadio 610, yes the same station he made his announcement, to broadcast various times during the week and the postgame show after every game for the Texans.

Myers made his feelings known with a thank you to both teams he had the pleasure to play for.

Myers retires as a phenomenal player who never missed a game and ends a great career to start a new chapter.
