Report: Chelsea agree €21.7 million for Augsburg’s Baba Rahman

According to reports, the Premier League champions have reached an agreement with German outfit Augsburg for left back Baba Rahman. The deal is expected  to cost Chelsea an initial £14 million and depending on Chelsea performance they will pay extra bonuses summing up to £3.5 million. Augsburg will receive another £700,000 when Rahman has played 20 games and £3.5 million when he has made 100 appearances.

The contract is expected to be a five-year contract and Rahman is expected to be in London for his medicals before the player is confirmed. Rahman who joined Augsburg last summer for £2.5 million was the best left back in the German Bundesliga last season and will be a very good signing for Mourinho’s side.

The Ghanaian international has been a target of top clubs in Europe with AS Roma, Manchester City and Arsenal all looking to secure his signature during this summer but it is Chelsea who almost has his signature. It is believed that the player is keen on joining the English Champions.

Rahman is expected to replace Felipe Luis who has returned to his former club Atletico Madrid. Luis left due to lack of playing time and Rahman might be stepping in a back-up to Cesar Azpilicueta. Others are also of the view that Mourinho will be playing Rahman at the left back position and then move Azpilicueta at his naturally position which is at the right back.

After conceding two goals in the opening fixture, Mourinho is looking to add more signings. Chelsea is expected to offer Everton over £26 million for defender John Stones. Chelsea have already signed Asmir Begovic and Radamel Falcao on-loan this summer
