MLS Pick ‘Em 2015: Week 23 – San Jose Earthquakes v. Portland Timbers

MLS Pick ‘Em 2015: Week 23 – San Jose Earthquakes v. Portland Timbers

Last week, New York City and Orlando City put on a show with the Northern team walking away with all three points at home. The result means we have the first lead change in weeks. Jeff and Russ are now tied on points, but Jeff pulls ahead on tiebreaker rules (Most correct outcomes). The rest of the top 4 mostly stayed the same with Alec now pulling into a tie for 4th with Eric. Here are the latest standings:

Player Points Correct Outcome Correct Score Incorrect Total
Jeff Krause 19 15 2 9 24
Russ McKenzie 19 13 3 11 24
Joseph Goldstein 15 11 2 13 24
Eric Walcott 13 13 0 11 24
Alec Rivera 13 9 2 15 24
Ned Joyce 9 7 1 17 24
Michael Norton 6 6 0 18 24
John Richan 5 5 0 19 24

This week, San Jose looks to gain some momentum against the now ice cold Timbers who have been abysmal on the road of late. Portland is still learning to incorporate a new DP, while San Jose is just glad to get one back now that the Gold Cup is over. Will Dominic Kinnear and co. right the ship for the ‘Quakes, or will the Timbers learn how to beat a team on the road again? Let’s see what the experts say.

Expert Pick Comments
Joseph GoldsteinAnalyst@LastWord_JG Draw (1-1) SJ will stabilize a bit and keep the Timbers mostly at bay. Timbers will take this one as a victory after getting blown out on the road again and again.
Eric WalcottStaff Writer@ericwalcott Draw (2-2) Portland is the better team here, but they’ve been abysmal on the road. San Jose is on a four game losing streak. Portland has lost four straight on the road. Both streaks end here, but neither team will be happy with the point.
Alec RiveraDepartment Head@LWOSAlec POR (2-1) Portland may be treading water, but with the weapons at their disposal that can’t last long. Against a San Jose side that considers Quincy Amarikwa an upgrade, Portland will romp.
Jeff KrauseSenior Editor@DFBJeff POR (2-1) The Quakes will be over matched, but Portland will win by a much narrower margin than they should.
Russ McKenzieDepartment Head@Russ_McKenzie POR (3-1) SJ has done nothing to impress and seems to have lost their head of steam. Perfect for Portland to get back on track after the debacle in Dallas.
John RichanStaff Writer@John_Richan POR (2-0) San Jose is not going to have enough in the tank to get anything out of this one. Portland is going to be hungry for the three points after having a rough July.
Ned JoyceContributor@nedjoyce POR (3-2) Portland was snake bit hard last week but should come back with motivation. It’ll be an exciting game and hoping SJ’s Tommy Thompson can start to show himself as a steady dependable force
