Peterborough United Announce New Captains for 2015-16

Peterborough United have announced new captains, selecting Michael Bostwick as Captain, Ben Alnwick as Vice-Captain and Gabriel Zakuani as Club Captain.

Peterborough United announce new captains for the 2015/16 season.

Gargantuan midfielder Michael Bostwick replaces Jack Payne as captain. This will please Posh fans, for Bostwick put in some very solid performances last season for Peterborough. His goal tally of seven is an added bonus for such a hard-working and dedicated player. The fact that he was given the burden of taking Peterborough’s penalties last season shows his reliability. There is no doubt that the players will be well-led by such a sterling example as captain of Peterborough United.

The vice-captaincy has been handed to Ben Alnwick, who has put in some vital performances in between the sticks. Posh fans have been tentative after losing Bobby Olejnik, but Alnwick is proving with each performance that he is equal to Olejnik. This role simply illustrates the commitment and consistency in Alnwick’s performances and will hopefully encourage him to continue in this good run of form.

Finally, Gabriel Zakuani has been given the role of club captain. Zakuani epitomises the club and this has lead to his reverence among Posh fans, not only due to his strong performances on the pitch, but also his contributions off the pitch too. If there were a discrepancy for the captain and vice-captain roles, there definitely isn’t any argument for who deserves to be the club captain. His 14 caps with Congo as well as his 170 league appearances for Peterborough will serve the club well, and he will certainly set a good example to the younger players emerging at the club.

All in all, manager Dave Robertson has made three excellent decisions for his captains this year. These selections could prove to be vital if Peterborough United, first of all, want to reach the Championship, but secondly want to remain there. Good leaders will motivate the players around them and encourage them to reach their top form week in, week out. Posh fans don’t want to see a repeat of last season. Fortunately, Posh fans will be encouraged by these good selections and eagerly await the start of the season.
