DeAndre Jordan changes His Mind, Decides to Re-Sign with the Clippers

After what is probably considered to be one of the weirdest days in NBA history, it appears that DeAndre Jordan, against all odds, has had a change of heart, and has decided to sign with the Los Angeles Clippers instead of the Dallas Mavericks for what is reported to be a four year max deal worth $88 million with a third year player option.

DeAndre Jordan changes His Mind, Decides to Re-Sign with the Clippers Instead

Emoji battles and Mark Cuban trying to enter Jordan’s house jokes aside, this is probably the best decision for Jordan. He originally was set to leave the Clippers, as it was reported on Friday that he intended to sign with the Mavs, as he grew tired of his supporting role offensively, and found Dallas to be the best fit for him. This was perhaps not the best decision for him, as Dallas is in rebuilding mode and it was very unlikely he would’ve found any sort of long term success there. His rebounding skills would remain intact, and he was very much likely going to help the Mavs in that side of the game, but his offensive production was going to suffer greatly, as there was no longer going to be a great point guard passing him the ball most of the time, which meant he was going to have to create most of his own plays. It seems he was up for the challenge nevertheless, as he told the Mavs he wanted to be “the man” on offense and defense. However, after discussing the situation with Doc Rivers, Blake Griffin and Chris Paul (whom he has had his share of difficulties) among others, it appears his decision on leaving was most certainly reversed, and he is now ready to return to the Los Angeles Clippers.

With Jordan ready to sign a new contract with Clippers, and the acquisition of a veteran player like Paul Pierce, expect the Clippers to once again regain their status of contenders in the vaunted Western Conference, where things are going to get really interesting once the season starts, with San Antonio making all the right moves, and Golden State remaining virtually intact. It’s going to be very entertaining to watch all these teams contend.
