RANK TEAM COMMENTS Last 6 Previous Change
1

Portland Timbers

Portland is undeniably the hottest team in the league right now. Their offense is firing on all cylinders, and apart from one big stumble in LA, their defense has been getting it done. One loss in almost two months is forgivable. 5-1-0 3 +2
2

LA Galaxy

In their last 4 games, the Galaxy boast a GD of +11. While Steven Gerrard’s arrival should boost the already in-form squad, the question remains do they need him? Interested to see what will happen with Ishizaki leaving. 3-2-1 5 +3
3

Sporting Kansas City

SKC had the week off, their drop on the table is likely only temporary. Will have to cope without Zusi for the time being. Given his form lately, maybe it is lucky that Klinsmann left Benny off the Gold Cup squad. 4-1-1 1 -2
4

Seattle Sounders FC

Seattle climbs back up the list after taking down the Supporter Shield front runners, but plenty of warning signs are there. Still struggling to put the ball in the net, even while they were up a man for nearly 65 minutes. DC could have at least taken a point on the road. Sigi needs to figure this team out. 2-4-0 13 +9
5

Vancouver Whitecaps FC

Whitecaps falling to Colorado should probably drop them further down the list, but they have been stellar of late, so we will exercise caution and look at it as a stumble and not a fall. 4-2-0 2 -3
6

DC United

DC won just 2 games in June thanks to a sputtering offense. On the plus side, their defense has been good enough to keep them in the game, but the offense is searching for answers. 2-3-1 4 -2
7

San Jose Earthquakes

No shame in losing to Portland, but again, the consistency issues remain. When San Jose is on, they look tough, when they are off, like jelly. 2-2-2 7 0
8

New York City FC

City are steadily climbing up the charts. If they can play Philly, Montreal and Toronto for the rest of the year, they will definitely make the playoffs. Still not standing toe to toe with most quality opponents, but their summer additions may help. 4-1-1 10 +2
9

Orlando City SC

Losing Kaka is a big blow, but at least it is only for a game. Orlando is still winning the expansion war against NYC and is in good position to make the playoffs. 3-1-2 8 -1
10

Toronto FC

Toronto has failed to score in 3 of their last 4. While they can still cling to some strong midfield play, their defense and offense are struggling. Giovinio can’t be the only answer. 3-2-1 6 -4
11

Columbus Crew SC

Columbus seems to have kicked their bad run of form and had a solid win over a tired RBNY. Ethan Finlay and Kei Kamara are clicking, but they are still missing a piece. 2-2-2 15 +4
12

FC Dallas

Good news Dallas fans. Back to back wins for the first time since the beginning of May. Bad news? It came against two sides struggling mightily right now. Still, it is important to beat the teams you are supposed to beat, right? 2-2-2 17 +5
13

Montreal Impact

Montreal has come back down to earth a bit. Still trailing most of the league in games played means they will have some schedule congestion coming up. Rough stretch at the end of July/beginning of August will tell us more about their season’s fortunes. 2-3-1 9 -4
14

Philadelphia Union

Philly’s last 4 wins came against, DC, NY, CLB, and SEA. Not sure what to make of the rest of the games they have played. 2-3-1 12 -2
15

New York Red Bulls

Slight stumble for a tired team in Columbus coming off an emotional roller coaster by becoming the king’s of NY. Now it is time for them to focus a bit more on the rest of the league. Luckily, the putrid Revs are up next. 2-4-0 14 -1
16

Real Salt Lake

RSL is a ghost of it’s former self. They have 5 wins through week 18, the fewest they have had at this point in the season since before 2011. Maybe they need to fully change the old guard before they can move forward. 1-2-3 18 +2
17

Houston Dynamo

Houston has looked toothless since beating the Red Bulls 4-2. The curse strikes again! Tough road ahead sees them play SJ twice, LA, and SKC in their next five. Houston looking less and less like a playoff team. 1-3-2 11 -6
18

Colorado Rapids

Colorado got their third win of the year against one of the best teams in the league. With Doyle getting his first goal. maybe this is the start of something better for the crew at DSG Park. 1-3-2 20 +2
19

Chicago Fire

Chicago and Revs could swap these places, but the draw snapping a four game losing streak is enough to see them on “top”. Sounders and back to back games against Crew could see the Fire drop back down though. Getting some bodies back from injuries will help their cause. 1-4-1 19 0
20

New England Revolution

Four straight losses and just a single win between now and the last time they played the Red Bulls (May 2nd). What is going on in New England? On the plus side, they did this last summer and made the final, so who knows. 1-5-0 16 -4
