Streaming Pitchers: 6/3/15

Today we’re looking at a couple former Red Sox prospects, one who is still in the system, and one who has moved on elsewhere. It’s not that I’m being a homer, I promise. But I do know a little more about these guys then some of the other low-owned streaming options out there. Plus I’m hoping that E-Rod develops into a fine mid-rotation starter, as he looked the part against the Rangers back last Thursday. But enough about my hopes and dreams. Let’s move on to the streaming pitchers for tomorrow!

Streaming Pitchers: 6/3/15

Eduardo Rodriguez LHP BOS (vs MIN)

As I mentioned in an intro to an earlier post of mine, Eduardo Rodriguez has stolen my heart. A lefty with mid-90’s heat, above average changeup and a decent breaker, he went 7.2 IP shutout innings with 7 K, 2 BB and 3 H. And he plays for “tha Sawx!” Three good pitches and developing control makes him a must start in most matchups. If you’re one of the lucky ones where he’s still available, go get him. This is a tremendous matchup, because even though the Twins look good against lefties, they’re not completely lefty killers (105 wRC+ against). Away from home, they only hit a 72 wRC+. You may even want to hold on to him and see if he gets another start, because if he gets the Sunday start at home against the Athletics, you’ll definitely want to take that matchup. Of course if they wait until next Tuesday, it’s in Camden Yards, and I wouldn’t go there if I were you.

Rubby de la Rosa RHP ARI (vs ATL)

So I have some bad news. Well, it’s not bad news for you but for me. It turns out Rubby de la Rosa might actually be good after all. He’s always had the stuff, but now he might be ready for a breakout. His strikeout and walk rates look excellent and he only has the home run rate holding him down. That 16.9% HR/FB rate might be too high, making his 4.50 ERA a little inflated, as his 3.35 xFIP might be a little closer to what his true skill set might actually be. In the right park, or in the right matchup, he’s going to have the skills to carry him to streaming usefulness. Even though he’s at home in Chase Field, a park that’s known to be hitter friendly, he’s going up against the Braves’ miserable offense, who post a 84 wRC+ away from Turner and a 95 wRC+ against righties. I’d say stream away.
