CONCACAF Executive Committee Imposes Ban on Enrique Sanz

The Executive Committee of The Confederation of North, Central America and the Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) today took action to provisionally ban Enrique Sanz from participation in any CONCACAF related activities, pending the outcome of an on-going investigation of the FIFA Ethics Committee.

Sanz acted as General Secretary of the Confederation until May 28, 2015, when he was placed on leave from his duties by the Executive Committee.

Sanz has also been provisionally suspended from all football related activities at the national and international levels by decision of the Chairman of the Adjudicatory Chamber of the FIFA Ethics Committee, pending a decision on allegations made against him.

FIFA’s Independent Ethics Committee also released a statement on Sanz, banning him from all football-related activities.

Following previous decisions and further clarification, and on the basis of investigations carried out by the investigatory chamber of the Ethics Committee and the latest facts presented by the US Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, the chairman of the adjudicatory chamber of the Ethics Committee, Hans-Joachim Eckert (pictured), today provisionally banned the official Enrique Sanz from carrying out any football-related activities at national and international level.

The decision was taken at the request of the chairman of the investigatory chamber, Dr Cornel Borbély, based on art. 83 par.1 of the FIFA Code of Ethics.

These actions show that the problems in FIFA and CONCACAF related to last week’s arrests are likely to continue to get worse, before they get better.
