Marlins Name Dan Jennings Manager

Mike Goff named bench coach

The Miami Marlins today announced that Dan Jennings, who recently served as the team’s General Manager, was named Manager of the Marlins. In addition, the team named Mike Goff as bench coach. The announcement was made by Marlins President of Baseball Operations Michael Hill.

“Mike Redmond was a dedicated and passionate member of the Marlins organization, and we thank him for his service. ‘Red’ helped us during a transition period for our ball club,” said Marlins’ owner Jeffrey Loria.

“That said, looking forward we need a different set of skills to harness the potent combination of talent we’ve put together. We can’t think of anyone better suited for the job than Dan Jennings – one of the people responsible for putting these players together, who can now play a more active role in getting the most out of them. DJ is a passionate baseball man with decades of experience in multiple Major League roles.
With the continuity provided by David Samson and Mike Hill, and DJ now providing leadership in the dugout, the present and future are bright.”

Jennings, 54, was named the Club’s Vice President, General Manager at the end of the 2013 season. He is in his 13th season with the Marlins, joining the organization as Vice President of Player Personnel in 2002. Jennings has 31 years in professional baseball, beginning his scouting career with the Reds in 1986, after being signed by the Yankees as an undrafted right-handed pitcher in 1984.

Prior to joining the Marlins, Jennings spent six-plus seasons as Scouting Director with Tampa Bay, following seven-plus years in the Seattle Mariners scouting department. Jennings graduated from William Carey College in 1984 and also attended and played baseball at the University of Southern Mississippi.
Jennings and his wife, Lori, have three sons, Tyler, Stewart and Hunter.

Goff, 52, was named the Marlins advance scout prior to the 2015 season, coming to Miami after spending five seasons in the San Francisco Giants system. He spent the 2013 and ’14 seasons managing the Single-A Augusta GreenJackets following a three-year stint as the Giants’ rookie league manager in Arizona (2009-11).

Goff spent 16 years with the Seattle Mariners, including three seasons of Major League coaching experience, acting as first base coach (2005-06) and bench coach (2007). In his time with Seattle, he worked nine seasons as coordinator of instruction for the Mariners farm system and spent four seasons managing.
