Roughriders Sign Receivers Devin Wilson and Eric Thomas

The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed two receivers, both internationals, on Friday. The signees, Devin Wilson and Eric Thomas, have exciting highlight films on YouTube that allow you to see their strengths.

The strength and effectiveness of the receiving corps was not a negative issue in Saskatchewan last year. Galvanized by the post Labor Day return of Weston Dressler, the receiving corps produced acceptable numbers considering the injury to starting quarterback Darian Durant.

With six newcomers in training camp and a salary cap to abide by you can bet two or three of Devin Wilson, Eric Thomas, Greg Hardin, Alex Carroll, Jamel Richardson, and the best name of them all Naamen Roosevelt will make the team.

The returning national members are Chris Getzlaf, Alex Anthony, and Alex Pierzchalski.

Chaz Schillens, Taj Smith, Ryan Smith, Weston Dressler, and Korey Williams return to camp as Internationals.

I could see Eric Thomas and Alex Carroll making the team. Thomas because he is quick, looks strong, and has great awareness. Carroll to fill the vacancy at national receiver left when Kris Bastien was traded to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers this off-season. There could be another two or three of these newly acquired receivers that will be destined for the practice roster.

I have to wonder if Woodny Turenne would be the kind of player you’d like to see stick around Regina? Just in case he’s needed at some point.

There are only a few weeks left before rookies and quarterbacks report to camp. I can hear the crowd already and I’m confident there will be lots of opportunity to celebrate in 2015.
