DC United Goalkeeper Bill Hamid Signs Multi-Year Extension with Club

It was announced Friday that goalkeeper Bill Hamid, the first D.C. United Academy player to sign a professional contract as part of the Homegrown program, will sign a multi-year extension with the Black and Red.

Washington, D.C. May 3, 2015 – D.C. United has announced that the club and Homegrown goalkeeper Bill Hamid have agreed to a multi-year contract extension. Hamid, the first D.C. United Academy player to sign a professional contract, has 120 career appearances (120 starts), 397 saves and 33 shutouts in six seasons. In 2014, Hamid became the first Homegrown player to be named MLS Goalkeeper of the Year and to reach 100 regular season games, as well as the first Homegrown goalkeeper selected to the MLS Best XI and the MLS All-Star Team.

“We are thrilled to secure Bill’s services and that he will continue to be a part of his hometown club,” said D.C. United General Manager and Vice President of Soccer Operations Dave Kasper. “D.C. United’s first Homegrown player has developed into an outstanding goalkeeper and we believe his best years are still ahead of him.”

Hamid, 24, finished the 2014 season first in saves percentage (75.3), second in shutouts (10), third in goals against average (1.13), tied for fourth in wins (14) and fourth in saves (110). He was the only goalkeeper to finish the MLS regular season in the top three in saves percentage, shutouts and goals against average. Hamid set career highs in games played and started (30), minutes played (2,700) shutouts, saves and wins.

After turning professional in 2009, Hamid made history on May 5, 2010, becoming the youngest goalkeeper to win an MLS contest at 19 years and 161 days old. In 2015, Hamid is 3-1-1 with 22 saves and three shutouts in five appearances (five starts). Hamid also has two career appearances for the U.S. Men’s National Team, most recently in a friendly against Ireland on Nov. 18, 2014.
