Happy hump day ladies and gentlemen, I’m so happy that baseball is back and in full swing! It’s already been a wild week and a half with Adrian Gonzalez breaking records, Clayton Kershaw getting off to a rocky start (along with a few other top arms), and Andrelton Simmons and George Springer putting on defensive clinics. I love baseball and as a part-time nerd I also love fantasy baseball and I have the pleasure of passing on my one of a kind, yet I have no idea what I’m talking about, intuition and self-appointed knowledge of this fun and frustrating game once a week to you.

Have a look at my daily fantasy baseball picks and take some yourself…or have a good laugh, like I said this knowledge is self-appointed and is subject to be wrong most of the time.

Starting Pitcher

Drew Pomeranz, SP, Oakland Athletics $6,800

I’m a big fan of Pomeranz and I think he’s poised for a great year in Oakland. What a slightly above average K/9 rate and a Houston team that likes to swing and miss like the ball is a piñata at an eight-year-olds birthday party, he looks to have a solid outing.

Catcher

Stephen Vogt, Oakland Athletics, $3,000

I don’t like to stack too many players from the same team but since I only have one hitter there isn’t a chance my team suffers from the “can’t hit the ball disease” that seems to spread through teams some days. Vogt is off to a great start and I like the lefty-righty matchup against Hughes.

First Base

Kendrys Morales, Kansas City Royals, $3,000

You are going to see a trend throughout my picks and if you guess it right you might get a prize. Morales is swinging a hot bat, slashing .414/.500/.724 on the young season. With slightly better number against RHP and a fairly weak opponent on the hill, look for Morales to continue his hot steak.

Second Base

D.J. LeMahieu, Colorado Rockies, $3,300

Still trying to make some noise for fantasy owners, LeMahieu sure has gotten my attention. Not much power but as long as he continues to put up multi-hit games at a cheap price (five of eight games so far), he will find a place on my roster. Did I mention he can steal bases too?

Third Base

Jacob Lamb, Arizona Diamondbacks, $3,000

I don’t know if he likes to go by Jake or Jacob but either way the young man is impressing so far. He is a platoon bat but he’s cheap, a great start against RHP, and he should feast off the inconsistent Brandon Morrow.

Shortstop

Jimmy Rollins, Los Angeles Dodgers, $3,700

Rollins is a household name who is a solid option at this price. Oh and he is facing Taijuan Walker, the same Taijuan Walker that gave up nine earned in Oakland last Friday. Now I’m not saying that’s going to happen again (as a Mariner fan I really hope not) but he’s young and his control can be shaky. Look for Rollins to take advantage.

Outfield

Alejandro De Aza, Baltimore Orioles, $3,100

Hopefully Baltimore can help De Aza channel a Nelson Cruz type power surge for them. Not seriously but with a good start, the speed/power combo, and the lefty-righty matchup I like the pick at this price.

Nelson Cruz, Seattle Mariners, $4,300

As an already professed Mariners fan I was a little skeptical of the Nelson Cruz signing. Not to say he wasn’t talented but when power hitters come to Seattle the power seems to get zapped out of them like some weird alien basketball from Space Jam. But with five HR already through eight games, Cruz is proving me wrong and demanding a space on my roster. Got to love the righty-lefty matchup as well.

Jose Bautista, Toronto Blue Jays, $4,800

Jose Bautista is a bad man. Jose Bautista is a bad man who punishes mistake pitches. Erasmo Ramirez is a mediocre pitcher who throws up a lot of mistake pitches and has a career 4.87 ERA. This game is also being played in hitter friendly Toronto. I could make more points but I think you get it. Bautista may be off to a slow start but this could be a good spot for him to get going.
