It was an eventful Friday in light of Iowa State fans as some headlines arose throughout the day.

It is Announced that men’s basketball Head Coach, Fred Hoiberg, will undergo Open Heart Surgery for his heart

Here is the full press release

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State men’s basketball coach Fred Hoiberg announced Friday that he will undergo open heart surgery to replace his aortic valve on Friday, April 17 at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

“After my initial surgery to replace my aortic root 10 years ago, I knew that this was something that would need to be done at some point,” Hoiberg said. “My valve has severe regurgitation and the time has come to get it replaced. I am hopeful that this will be my last surgery and I’m looking forward to getting this behind me.”

Hoiberg recently finished his fifth season as Iowa State’s head coach. He has guided the Cyclones to a school-record four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and back-to-back Big 12 Championship titles. Hoiberg owns a 115-56 career record.

Iowa State hosted a press conference later for Fred Hoiberg, where Fred discussed his heart conditions and why he does not wear a tie while coaching anymore.

Hoiberg said he got light headed while wearing the tie, and from then on he chose not to wear it. He referenced that he did not mean to offend anyone by not having a tie on.

“Going in for a life insurance exam probably saved my life.” Hoiberg said.

2015 Cyclone Football Poster Revealed

Iowa State unveiled their 2015 Football poster by having fans retweet multiple posts on twitter. The first needed 500 RT’s to unlock, the second 300, and the last one 100.

… And the final poster

The posters will be handed out at the Spring Game, as they are every year.

What to watch for in the Iowa State Spring Game

As it appears Sam Richardson has secured the starting spot at QB for his senior season, making this the first spring game in a few years where there won’t be a starting QB battle. However, that doesn’t exclude that there may be a backup QB competition, between Jr. Grant Rohach and So. Joel Lanning.

The Cyclones lost their starting RB last season as well, and now the six person battle begins. The team features six running backs, two juniors, two sophomores, and two freshmen. During the first spring depth chart released by Iowa State, the starting role was given to So. Tyler Brown.

Iowa State receivers will also be in the mix with things to talk about, as Quenton Bundrage makes his return to the football field after being injured during the first game of 2014.

On the defensive side of the ball, Nigel Tribune looks to get back on the field as one of the more notable players on the roster. Also, Levi Peters, is on the field for the first time since earning his scholarship during the offseason.
