MLS Pick ‘Em 2015: Week 4 – RSL v. TFC

Ladies and Gentleman, we have a new leader. After picking the correct game and score last week, Russ McKenzie shoots to the top of the standings. Can he keep it up this week? Will any of the writers with 0 points so far break through?

Real Salt Lake and Toronto FC meet for the lone time this year at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah. Salt Lake dug out results so far this year but are still looking for their first win. While many see it as a rebuilding year, Salt Lake has the look of a fading power. Still they have dangerous weapons all over the pitch. Toronto FC is the new face of the Eastern Conference by virtue of their big name player signings over the last two seasons. Only one of those players (Sebastian Giovinco) will see the field this weekend thanks to international selections that saw Jozy Altidore and Michael Bradley called up to the USMNT. With both teams at less than full strength, who has the edge? Find out from our experts.

Expert Pick Comments
Joseph GoldsteinAnalyst@LastWord_JG RSL (2-0) A depleted TFC is just what the doctor ordered for Salt Lake to get their first win. Toronto playmaker Giovinco isn’t ready to go it alone and will find it tough to gain purchase in Utah.
Eric WalcottStaff Writer@ericwalcott RSL (3-1) Both teams are missing key players but TFC still lacks the depth to cope with missing stars. RSL earn their first win as Javier Morales reminds everyone he’s still one of the best creative players in the league.
Alec RiveraDepartment Head@LWOSAlec TFC (1-0) No Altidore, no Bradley, and thus low scoring. Giovinco v Beckerman nearly a stalemate, but TFC score late. 1-0
Jeff KrauseEditor@DFBJeff RSL (1-0) TFC will be a shadow of their Week 1 selves while they scamper to find the depth to replace key pieces. RSL will stick to their plan, relying on one of the best attacking mids in the league in Javi Morales to earn their first win of the season.
Russ McKenzieDepartment Head@Russ_McKenzie Draw 0-0 Toronto without Bradley and Altidore + an RSL club in transition between old and new = snoozefest 0-0 draw in my eyes.
John RichanStaff Writer@John_Richan Draw (1-1) With so many players away on International duty this one is a crapshoot. Giovinco is too good to be held off the scoresheet 2 games in a row and RSL won’t lose at home.
Michael NortonEditor@MichaelNorton95 Draw (1-1) No Altidore, Bradley, or Rimando means the supporting cast will shine. Javier Morales continues to get praise at RSL, but Luke Mulholland has shown great flashes and will do so again. Look for Jonathan Osorio to score off a counterattack for Toronto.
Ned JoyceContributor@nedjoyce RSL Wins (3-1) No defense + No Altidore or Bradley spells field day for RSL. Giovinco gets one because…Giovinco, but it’s likely not a header
