On the Powerplay – Kovalchuk, KHL Rumors, Hamburgler, Playoff Races, more

Last Word on Sports is proud to present their hockey podcast, On the Powerplay with Ben and Dave.  Join Ben Kerr and Dave Gove each week as they take a look around the Hockey World focusing on the big issues of the NHL and elsewhere.

In this episode of On the Powerplay Dave and Ben dive into the Ilya Kovalchuk rumor mill. Is he coming back to the NHL? When will it be? What are the rules for his re-admission into the league? Would he have to return to the Devils? Are the rumors credible? What about denials?

They then look at the wider issue of the KHL. Is the fall of the ruble de-stabilizing the league? What will happen to youngsters like Artemy Panarin and Viktor Tikhonov? Is KHL leading scorer, and the man who set the league’s goals record, Steve Moses, on his way to the NHL? How will this effect the NHL draft and the dreaded KHL factor?

From there the boys move back to North America where they examine the playoff races. Can the Senators steal more than just Hamburgers, and take the final playoff spot away from the Boston Bruins? Is Andrew Hammond for real? How long can he keep this up? What about the Los Angeles Kings will the defending champs make the playoffs or will the Flames and Jets hold on to their spots?

The boys also look at Chris Tanev’s new contract and whether he is worth the commitment from the Vancouver Canucks.

From there a quick look at college free agents. Who has signed? And a look at the 16 team NCAA Championship Hockey Tournament that starts this week.

All this and more as the boys go “On the Powerplay.”
