Fantasy Profile: Chase Headley, 3B, New York Yankees
LWOS Ranking 18, Captain’s Value: $5.17
Last year, Chase Headley was traded to the Yankees and he re-signed with the team during the off-season as he established himself as the starting 3B for the New York Yankees. The question to ask is how much fantasy value does he offer?
While playing for the Padres last year, he had a unmemorable .229 / .296 /.355 slash line. On the other hand after being swapped to the Yankees his numbers raised notably (.262 /.371 /.398). and he had 6 HRs in 58 games. He only managed to crush 7 HRs as a Padre in 77 games, so in all likelihood he’ll have more production this year starting as a New York Yankee.
Another question to ask is whether Headley will once again play like a MVP contender?
In 2012, he finished in the top-5 in MVP voting with 31 HR and 115 RBI. Thanks to these numbers, he won the Silver Slugger award. 2012 was absolutely superb for Headley, and it established huge expectations for the upcoming seasons. Still, he failed to deliver. On 2013 and 2014 he combined to hit 26 HRs and 99RBI with a .246 AVG.
Headley is batting for a .313 AVG this spring training, so hypothetically speaking this year will be much better for the 30 year-old 3B. Headley’s average draft pick is 240.0 (per Yahoo Sports). He is a strong bounce back candidate this year and is a sleeper. So feel free to grab him during your fantasy draft.
