Mitch “Twizzler Bones” Thompson: “I Want to Fight in Japan!”

Mitch “Twizzler Bones” Thompson is a fighter out of Salt Lake City, Utah at Jeremy Horn’s Elite Performance Gym. He has a (5-2) professional MMA record and four of his five wins are by submission. I was able to talk with Thompson in an interview and he was able to answer a few questions about his career, MMA in general and some fun topics to go along with it.

Mitch “Twizzler Bones” Thompson: “I Want to Fight in Japan!”

Todd Parkinson: “When did you get into MMA and what made you decide to get into it?”

MT: “I have wrestled since I was three and when I was 15 or 16, I was watching The Ultimate Fighter Season 6 and thought “Holy Shit!” I could beat up these grown up men, these guys are terrible. From that point on, I wanted to get into MMA.”

TP: “What brought you to Jeremy Horn’s camp and how have you benefited from it?”

MT: “I got done wrestling in college at Nebraska and Team Alpha-Male and Scott Jorgensen’s gym in Idaho were trying to get me to join their team, but I knew I could benefit from Horn and his extreme knowledge of grappling and overall MMA. I consider myself a grappling based fighter and I have benefited so much from what Jeremy Horn has taught me.”

TP: “What are your goals in MMA and where do you see yourself in 2-3 years from now?”

MT: “Japan! I really see myself fighting there within a few years and my dream-fight would be against Kazushi Sakuraba on New Year’s Eve in Japan. We would be doing cartwheel kicks and having fun and Sakuraba would be the type of opponent that would do that with me.”

TP: “What are your thoughts on the recent PED controversy with MMA fighters and how does it affect the sport?”

MT: “They’ve been a problem for a long time. It’s good that they are cleaning it up and all, but I find it hard to determine what actually is a PED. If a PED benefits somebody’s health, I don’t see it a problem. Bigfoot Silva may have years taken off his life for being taken off testosterone. His gigantic features need the help of PED’s to help his body sustain itself at it’s large size. I’m not a scientist, but it’s hard to determine which PED’s are good for fighters and which ones are bad for fighters.”

TP: “How did you get the nickname Twizzler Bones?”

MT: “It goes back to a fight I had with Weston Wilson from The Pit Elevated. My arm was tweaked back at a 220 degree angle and it didn’t even hurt and I didn’t tap. Somehow I did not break my arm from that and the name has stuck ever since. I can’t be submitted by arm-bars or any types of submissions like that. I would have to be choked out to be submitted.”

TP: “How long do you plan to continue to grow your crazy hair and beard?”

MT: “The beard I’ve grown for a year and it just decided to stop growing at a point. My hair is about a foot long in the back, but I just like it to keep away from my eyes in the front. So I will just keep growing it long in the back for awhile.”

TP: “Who would win between Fedor and Cain in their prime and why?”

MT: “Fedor without a doubt! Don’t get me wrong, Cain is way good and is a cardio machine and is the best right now, but Fedor would find a way to either knock him out or lock an arm-bar on him. Fedor was the best ever and beat the best heavyweights in the greatest era of time for heavyweights.”

TP: “Would you support the idea of an Ultimate Fighter season with Jeremy Horn’s gym vs. The Pit Elevated?”

MT: “Of course, why would I not support it? Ever since the Jeremy Horn vs. Chuck Liddell saga, there has been a rivalry between the two because of that for years. John Hackleman is one of the coaches at The Pit and some of the best fights in Utah are when fighter’s of each of those teams face each other. It would be an awesome season.”

TP: “If you could marry a female MMA fighter, who would it be and why?”

MT: “It would be one of these three; Felice Herrig, DeAnna Bennett and Claudia Gadelha. All of them are great people and fighters. They are all of course hot and I would get along with them all, but if I had to choose one it would be DeAnna  Bennett.”

TP: “What should your opponent Jonathan Gary expect from you at the Sugar Creek Showdown in Oklahoma in your next fight?”

MT: “He should expect to get thrown around like a ragdoll and have no forward movement on his part whatsoever.”

Thompson obviously has a great personality to go along with his impressive MMA career as shown by the interview and hopefully he gets the opportunity to be recognized by the big name companies so that he can fulfill his dream of fighting in Japan one day.
