Happy ending for the Leopold family

If you wish upon a star, your wish may come true. For the Leopold family, their wish did come true. Jordan Leopold’s daughter Jordyn Leopold sent a letter to the Minnesota Wild coaching staff asking if the team could make a trade with the Columbus Blue Jackets to get her father back.

In the letter she states “My dad is very lonly (sic) without his family.” In the household lives her, her mom, two sisters and her brother and she states that they are all lost without her father being around. His family remained in Minnesota when Leopold was with the Blue Jackets playing for them and travelling. They barely saw him.

In the hockey business, it is hard when the players are away from their family and friends. Their schedules make their team their family because of the amount of time you spend with them. During off season, they still don’t see their family as much as they would like to. Most only take a few short weeks off before getting back into the gruesome training. A lot of wives follow their spouse (with the kids if they have) but there are a few who prefer to remain in one location due to work/schooling/family etc.

It has been said for some time that the defenseman wanted to return to Minnesota to be with his family. There was a deal intact before the GM’s saw the letter by knowing Leopold wanted to return. However the letter will be one to remember for both teams.

Yes, hockey is a sport but these players are also humans. They want to be with family and live as normal of a life they can away from the rink. This is just one of many stories that Hockey and Money is not always put as a number one priority.
