Athleticism: B+

A very good athlete for an offensive lineman, especially given his impressive stature. Possesses very good initial quickness and movement ability. Possesses good range to play outside of a phone booth and will not be limited by any scheme athletically. Combine testing was nothing out of the ordinary, but doesn’t represent his actual athletic ability on the field.

Pass Blocking: B-

Generally is a good blocker, but has potential to be much better in pass protection. Impressive length and stature for an offensive line prospect and possesses a prototypical left tackle build. Very efficient getting into his pass sets and is able to cut off the edge initially. Lacks an ideal anchor at this stage, but is able to reset his base when giving ground initially. Matches up better versus speed than versus power. Will benefit from better technique and more sand in his anchor.

Run Blocking: B+

A more than capable run blocker, whether in a zone blocking scheme or man-to-man. Gets out of his stance quickly and engages his defender. Is a very mobile blocker who is able to get out into space and attack at the second level. Possesses the upper-body strength to drive blockers backward and to generate movement off the line of scrimmage. Can be overly aggressive and ends up on the ground too often.

Technique: C+

Technically, is a work in progress but has enough to polish to start as a rookie. Lunges into contact and will get overextended. Ends up on the ground more often than is ideal. Will duck his head into contact at times, leaving himself vulnerable to moves over the top. Could do a better job of driving his feet into contact.

Intangibles: B+

Possesses high end personal and football character, and would appear to be a relatively “safe” pick in terms of intangibles. Doesn’t show a nasty attitude on tape, but effort is consistent across his body of work. Could do a better job of reading and reacting to the blitz.

Red Flags: None

Bottom Line:

Andrus Peat possesses many traits an NFL left tackle, but may require some time to correct some of his technical flaws and bad habits. Peat is neither an elite athlete, nor is he impressively powerful, but instead offers a well above average blend of the two that allows him to run block and pass protect at a high level. Peat can function in either a man-to-man or zone blocking scheme, but may not be a great fit for teams that prefer their linemen to have a nasty attitude in the trenches.

Comparison: Taylor Lewan

Grade: 9.1 (1st Round)
