Koscheck and Ellenberger Clash at the Crossroads of Their Careers

Tonight at UFC 184, Josh Koscheck and Jake Ellenberger meet in what could be “The end of the road” for one of the fighters. Both fighters have been ranked in the top five in the past, but they have tasted defeat as of late. Tonight will decide who is ready to make a comeback in the UFC Welterweight division.

Koscheck and Ellenberger Clash at the Crossroads of Their Careers

Koscheck in as an Ultimate Fighter Season 1 alumni that has evolved from basically just being a wrestler into a knockout artist and he is well-versed in submissions. He has notable victories over Anthony Johnson, Paul Daley and Diego Sanchez. He once challenged for the title against Georges St Pierre, but fell short. As of late, he lost a close decision to former champion Johny Hendricks and then suffered back to back losses against Robbie Lawler and Tyron Woodley. He took about 15 months away from the cage just to regroup and heal some injuries. At 37 years of age, Koscheck says that he feels better than he has in a long time and is ready to make another run at the title.

Ellenberger is a destroyer in the Octagon that has elite-level wrestling combined with lethal knockout power. Ellenberger has notable victories over Nate Marquardt, Jake Shields and Mike Pyle. As of late, he has also suffered losses to Champion Robbie Lawler, title-challenger Rory MacDonald and Kelvin Gastelum. Ellenberger has lacked consistency in his career vs the top of the heap. His victory over Shields is the only one that ever put him in title contention. Ellenberger strongly believes that he is still the best in the world and he wants to prove it tonight against Koscheck.

An interesting thing about this fight is how similar their styles are and how much their careers have matched each other as of late. The UFC definitely put thought into this fight and the story of each fighter makes it that much more interesting. Recently, the UFC put Frank Mir and Bigfoot Silva against each other in the main event of a UFC Fight Night. Neither of those fighters were on their way up, but it is the risk factor of “Possibly being the end” is what intrigues the fans. The Koscheck vs Ellenberger fight definitely has that intriguing factor and it could mean that one of the fighters has to sign his walking papers.

One thing is for sure, this fight is going to be action packed. Both fighters are going for the knockout and it will most-likely be a high-pressure and high paced fight that will for sure entertain the crowd. We will see tonight at UFC 184 who moves forward and who might have to call it the end of the road.
