FANTASY PROFILE: HANLEY RAMIREZ, SS, BOSTON RED SOX

LWOS Ranking: 3, Captain’s Value: $15.69

Hanley Ramirez is the definition of a high risk/high reward player. He will produce when he’s on the field, but how often will that be? Ramirez has missed atleast 36 games in three of the last four seasons and missed a combined 146 games in 2011 and 2013. When healthy, he’s one of the best fantasy contributors across the board. But can he play an injury-free season?

Provided Ramirez can stay healthy, his fantasy numbers will certainly go up from last season. Ramirez will be playing his home games at Fenway Park, which is one of the best parks to hit in, especially for pull hitters. Fenway is made for Hanley’s swing, as 20 of his last 32 HR are to left field. I see him increasing his double and homerun totals, as well an uptake in his batting average. Not to mention Ramirez will be hitting in one of the best lineups in all of baseball.

Drafting Hanley Ramirez in the 2nd or 3rd round no doubt has it’s risks. However, if he is healthy, a .290/25/90/80/20 season could be in store. This is great fantasy value, especially at a weak SS position. My advice: Draft him and pray for the best.
