FANTASY PROFILE: MARTIN PRADO, 2B, MIAMI MARLINS
LWOS Ranking 16, Captain’s Value: $6.85
At this point in his career, Martin Prado is a better real-life baseball player than a fantasy player. His best statistical years were kind of like a poor man’s Ben Zobrist, with 15/15 upside and multiple-position eligibility. During his 37-game stint with the New York Yankees in the second half of 2014, Prado appeared reinvigorated, and took advantage of Yankee Stadium to the tune of a .316/.336/.541 slash rate with 7 HR, 16 RBI, and 18 R.
Unfortunately, he will not be playing for the Yankees in 2015, as he was traded to the Miami Marlins and their spacious Marlins Park. The park in Miami should drain some of his power, and he probably won’t steal more than a few bases, but he will likely hit for a nice average and the RBI and R totals should get a nice boost hitting in a suddenly decent Marlins lineup. There’s not much upside here, but Prado could be a nice late round pickup used in a utility role. He still offers added value with eligibility at 2B, 3B, and even OF in some league formats.
