FANTASY PROFILE: AARON HILL, 2B, ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS
LWOS Ranking 18, Captain’s Value: $6.41
In the past, Aaron Hill had demonstrated the ability to be a major power source at the 2B position where power tends to be in short supply. Hill hit 36 HR in 2009 and as recent as 2012, he hit 26 HR.
However, the last two years have not been kind to Hill. While he had a respectable .291 AVG & .818 OPS in 2013, his season was also shortened to 87 games due to injury. While he did play in 133 games in 2014, his production took a significant hit. He only hit 10 HR and had an OPS of .654.
With Hill, the question to ask is whether his 2014 numbers were a bump in the road or a warning sign of things to come? The indications point to it being the latter. Hill’s days as a potential 25+ HR power source appears to have come and gone. While he should see an improvement from the .244 total he posted last year as he had a BABIP which was 14 points below his career total, anything beyond 15 HR in the power department may be too much to reasonably expect.
