Following reports that Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson had been sacked on Sunday, the club has released a statement confirming their manager’s position in the club.

Leicester City Football Club would like to clarify its position relative to its manager, Nigel Pearson.

Contrary to media speculation on Sunday evening, Nigel remains the Club’s First Team Manager. Reports to the contrary are inaccurate and without foundation.

Nigel, his staff and the first team squad are entirely focused on Tuesday night’s trip to Arsenal and our continued efforts to secure our position in the Barclays Premier League.

It hasn’t been a season to remember for Leicester City this season, as they sit at the bottom of the Premier League table.  For manager, Nigel Pearson, things appeared to have gone from bad to worse, following a controversial 0-1 defeat to Crystal Palace

“It’s a bad result, a decent performance, so a bit of a kick in the teeth and the players are down,” Pearson had said of the Palace game. “But we deal with it and move on and by the time we reconvene I know they’ll be looking at what we can do rather than what we can’t do.”

Pearson was involved in a bizarre sideline incident with Crystal Palace midfielder James McArthur during the match.  After McArthur inadvertently knocked down Pearson, the two seemed got involved in a physical confrontation.  Nigel Pearson appeared to be on top of McArthur with his hands around the player’s neck.  He was later seen tugging at McArthur’s shirt as he attempted to return to the pitch.  The fourth official had to break things up.

This follows a December incident where Pearson was fined £10,000 and given a one-match ban after he was filmed telling one of his own supporters to “f*** off and die.”

These incidents, combined with the club’s 4-5-15 record, left owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha and the board contemplating Pearson’s future on Sunday, but it appears the manager has gotten a reprieve.
