Kimmo Timonen to Skate Friday

Philadelphia Flyers general manager Ron Hextall announced earlier today that defenseman Kimmo Timonen will resume skating on Friday, after missing the entire season to-date with blood clot issues. Hextall also added that there is minimal risk involved with Timonen’s return.

The Finnish defender has spent seven seasons with the Flyers organization, accumulating 270 points in the process. This off-season, the 39-year-old alternate captain signed a one-year deal with a base salary of $2 million (and incentives that can push its value to $4 million).

The veteran Timonen will be a welcome addition to a thin Flyers blue line, though their playoff chances look dim at best. “I think up to this point in the year it’s pretty evident how much we’ve missed Kimmo,” said Hextall, who also added “It’s not only on the ice, it’s off the ice, it’s intangibles, it’s in the locker room, the work ethic, the professionalism and everything he brings. And his presence on the ice. We’ve missed him a ton and we’re looking forward to having him back.”
