Evander Kane To Undergo Shoulder Surgery

The Winnipeg Jets have traded 23-year-old left winger Evander Kane. Kane was recently benched for showing up in Vancouver without a proper suit.

The Evander Kane saga has taken another turn as the 23-year-old will undergo season ending shoulder surgery, and should be out for 4-6 months.

While this quiets the NHL trade deadline talk surrounding Kane, at least for the moment, its hard to see him being back in Winnipeg next season.  Bob McKenzie has said that he believes Kane will be traded in the off-season.

Kane has had a number of issues in Winnipeg, as he was often in hot water with previous coach Claude Noel.  Current head coach Paul Maurice recently benched Kane for a game in his hometown of Vancouver.  According to Gary Lawless, and other reports, the benching was due to the fact that Kane arrived at the arena in a track suit, instead of a proper suit.  TSN’s Craig Button stated on TSN 690 Radio that this was not the first time Maurice and Kane had issues over Kane’s off-ice conduct, and that he had been warned previously.

Kane is a power forward with a ton of talent, but hasn’t alwasy seemed to get the most out of it.  His best season came in 2011-12 when he scored 30 goals and added 27 assists for 57 points.  He has battled injuries the last two years.  Currently Kane has 10 goals and 12 assists for 22 points in 37 games.

The 6’2″ 198 pound winger has spent his entire career, to this point, with the Jets/Atlanta Thrashers Organization.  Kane was drafted in the first round, 4th overall, in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
