BREAKING: Anderson Silva Tests Positive For Anabolic Steroid

In a moment that has shook the MMA world to its foundation, longtime UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva has tested positive for Drostanolone, an anabolic steroid.

The UFC announced the failed drug test with a statement on their website, which included that the drug tests was taken out of competition on January 9th.

Nick Diaz also failed a drug test, testing positive for marijuana during the post-fight drug test.

The UFC released the following statement on Silva:

“On February 3, 2015, the UFC organization was notified by the Nevada State Athletic Commission that Anderson Silva tested positive for Drostanolone metabolites on his Jan. 9 out of competition drug test. UFC’s understanding is that further testing will be conducted by the Commission to confirm these preliminary results.

“Anderson Silva has been an amazing champion and a true ambassador of the sport of mixed martial arts and the UFC, in Brazil as well as around the world. UFC is disappointed to learn of these initial results.

“The UFC has a strict, consistent policy against the use of any illegal and/or performance enhancing drugs, stimulants or masking agents by its athletes.”

Both Diaz and Anderson fought at UFC 183, with Silva winning by unanimous decision, 50-45, 50-45, and 49-46. The win will most likely be turned into a No Contest due to both fighters failing drug tests.
