Suns put Miles Plumlee on the block

According to reports, Phoenix Suns general manager Ryan McDonough has decided to try and trade third year centre Miles Plumlee and is entertaining offers for the former Duke big man.

Plumlee has hardly seen the court this season, averaging just 13.5 minutes per game in the month of January. Plumlee’s minutes have dwindled not because of his own game, but because of the recent acquisition of fellow center Brendan Wright, who was involved in the Rajon Rondo trade. Wright was traded to the Celtics, who then flipped him to the Suns with a protected first round pick going to Boston (via the Timberwolves).

Brendan Wright now being a part of the Suns roster has meant that Plumlee was the guy who had to take a step back and spend more of his time on the bench. Plumlee’s pain did not end there, as second year center Alex Len has taken several large strides into becoming the dominant center Phoenix wanted him to be when they took him as the 5th pick in the 2013 draft. Having a young center and a new acquisition on the roster is possibly the worst spot for Miles Plumlee right now.  He has now become expendable as there just is limited minutes available to him in the Suns rotation.

The Suns organization are reportedly asking for a future first round pick for Miles Plumlee, this to me may be asking a little too much of other teams across the league. Plumlee is currently 26 yea’s old and to hope for a future first round pick just doesn’t seem realistic. Plumlee was selected 26th in the 2012 draft, whereas brother Mason was selected 22nd by Brooklyn a year later. Despite the struggles in Brooklyn I think it’s fair to say that Mason is getting a much smoother ride then Miles looking at their current situations.

There is no doubt in my mind that someone will pick up Miles Plumlee, as there is always a team in need of a big man in the NBA. Where will he end up? That is a mystery.
