Fantasy Profile: Miguel Montero, C, Chicago Cubs

Pos. Rank 13

Miguel Montero is getting a change of scenery going from the Diamondbacks to the Cubs for 2015. The primary question surrounding Montero is whether this change of scenery will help him improve his numbers or does he continue the downward trend his bat saw his last couple of seasons in Arizona?

The positive aspect is that he still should provide a reasonable amount of power as he has continued to reach double figures for Home Runs. However, both his Batting Average & BABIP have seen corresponding swoons over the last couple seasons. It is likely that this is a sign of things to come as this has corresponding with him hitting the wrong side of 30 and his Ground Ball Rate (GB%) has been above career norms over the last couple seasons.

While he should still provide some double-digit power, the best case scenario for his batting average is likely in the .250-.260 range.
