Oilers Trade David Perron to Penguins

It was announced earlier today that the Edmonton Oilers have traded 26 year old David Perron to the Pittsburgh Penguins in return for a first round pick in 2015, as well as 28 year old Rob Klinkhammer.

There were no shortage of trade rumors surrounding the Edmonton Oilers, however this is a trade that most did not see coming. The Oilers traded for Perron back in 2013 with the hopes that he’d be part of the solution – and Perron has met all expectations. Perron finished the 2013-2014 season with 28 goals and 29 assists for a total of 57 points. This season he’s already tallied 5 goals and racked up 14 assists for a total of 19 points – standing at fourth in points for the Oilers.

Despite the fact that the Oilers have been relentlessly working towards rebuilding a solid franchise, in MacTavish’s eyes, another first round pick and Rob Klinkhammer is the answer.

This trade solves some of the Pittsburgh Penguins’ problems perfectly, however. Ever since the team has been slammed with the mumps epidemic, offensive productivity has been slightly lower for the team. Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford hopes that Perron can help spark some offense with the team, while at the same time, possibly help the team capture it’s second Stanley Cup in six years.
