Athleticism: C

Average initial quickness off the snap, but does show good quickness moving laterally. Appears to have very good balance and movements for someone of his frame and stature.

Pass Blocking: C+

Capable of getting out of his stance and sliding laterally to protect the edge. However, gives up the edge initially too often to feel comfortable labeling him a left tackle. Plays too high and lets defenders get into his chest far too easily and often. Anchor appears adequate and does not get put on skates. Surprisingly capable of sticking to blocks given his lack of length and punch. Has very good to keep himself in front of pass rushers.

Run Blocking: C-

Does not generate much movement in the running game, if any. Is more of a wall-off blocker. Has a strong upper body steer defenders, but does not have pop in his hands to create movement. Athletic enough to get out in space and block but appears to have a hard time finding someone to block or too often appearing to block the wrong defender.

Technique: C

Comes off the ball too high more often than not and needs to sit lower in his stance in order to gain leverage. Does not flash a powerful punch and isn’t able to lock out often given his shorter than ideal arm length. However, has good balance and footwork and isn’t on the ground often.

Intangibles: B-

Is not the fieriest competitor and is certainly not a mauler. Has the composure of an offensive lineman but does not show much nastiness to finish blocks or eliminate defenders. Aware for the most part, but can be beat off the snap on occasion. Tough, and has been a three year starter despite a host of ligament injuries.

Red Flags: Durability, Tweener

Bottom Line: There are a lot of knocks against Sean Hickey, his unreliable health and durability being one of them. His best bet to make an NFL team will be as a reserve lineman, most likely in an offensive that passes a lot and would use him primarily as a guard.

Comparison: Elvis Fisher

Grade: 7.4 (5th Round)
