Breaking: Boston Celtics agree to trade Rajon Rondo to Dallas Mavericks

The Rajon Rondo trade sweepstakes has finally come to an end. The Boston Celtics have agreed to trade Rondo to the Dallas Mavericks. In this trade, the Celtics will receive Jae Crowder, Jameer Nelson, Brandan Wright and draft picks.

This trade is not one that many should be surprised about. With Rondo becoming a free agent after this season, it was almost certain that he would be in a different uniform next season. And for Danny Ainge, he simply could not let Rajon Rondo walk in free agency and not get anything out of it. The Celtics organization has finally realized that it’s time to break the core players apart and start from scratch. With Brandan Wright and Jae Crowder coming to the Celtics, these are two very talented young players the Celtics have added to their rebuilding process. Expect to see Jameer Nelson released by the Celtics in the next week or so.

As for the Dallas Mavericks, things just keep getting better for them. This past offseason, Dirk Nowitzki took a huge paycut to add talent around him, and the Mavericks are doing just that. They were able to bring back Tyson Chandler, and were also able to sign Chandler Parsons in free agency. Rondo is the perfect point guard to have on a championship contender. He’s not much of a scorer, but he is always looking to get his teammates open. He is averaging 10.8 assists, and that number could very well go up. With shooters like Nowitzki and Monta Ellis around him, it’s going to be easy for those guys to get open shots. It’ll also be pretty exciting to see Rondo throwing lobs to Chandler.

The Western Conference has just gotten tougher. It might be too early to say anything because Rondo hasn’t played a game for the Mavericks yet, but this team might have just become a serious contender for an NBA championship. Both Rondo and Ellis are used to being primary ball handlers, so it’ll take some time for them to get used to things. But once things get rolling, this team could easily have home court advantage once the playoffs come around. All the contenders in the Western Conference have great point guards, and the Dallas Mavericks just got one.
