Marlins acquire All-Star Dee Gordon from Dodgers
Seven-player deal also sends RHP Dan Haren, INF Miguel Rojas & cash to Miami
SAN DIEGO — The Miami Marlins tonight announced that they have acquired second baseman Dee Gordon, right-handed pitcher Dan Haren and infielder Miguel Rojas from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for pitchers Andrew Heaney and Chris Hatcher, infielder Enrique Hernandez and catcher Austin Barnes. The announcement was made by Marlins’ President of Baseball Operations Michael Hill.
Gordon, 26, was named to his first All-Star team in 2014, when he led the Majors in both stolen bases (64) and triples (12). His 176 hits ranked first among National League second basemen, while his .289 batting average ranked sixth among his NL peers. Gordon was tied for eighth in the NL with 92 runs scored, and was successful on 77.1 percent of his stolen base attempts (64-of-83), which ranked 13th in the NL.
Haren, 34, has made at least 30 starts in 10 consecutive seasons, and has pitched 216 innings or more in seven of those campaigns. Since his first full Major League season in 2005, Haren has the third-most wins (136) among active pitchers, trailing only CC Sabathia (154) and Justin Verlander (152), and he leads the Majors in games started (329) and innings pitched (2113.2). Haren’s ERA over that span is 3.70. Additionally, he is 2-0 with a 3.26 ERA (19.1 IP/7 ER) in seven career postseason games (two starts).
Rojas, 25, made his ML debut for the Dodgers in 2014, appearing in 85 games (37 starts) at shortstop (66 G/25 GS), third base (19/10), second base (3/2) and left field (1/0). He made his debut on June 6 at Colorado as a defensive replacement, and made his first start two nights later at Coors Field (third base), going 1×3 with an RBI. He batted .181 (27×149) for the Dodgers, but hit at a .302 (48×159) clip in 51 games with Triple-A Albuquerque.
