NCAA Looking Into Winston Point Shaving Allegations

NCAA Looking Into Winston Point Shaving Allegations

The NCAA has begun trying to make contact with various parties involved in the Jameis Winston gambling allegations that arose on Friday. LWOS, along with other media outlets, reported late last week that an online gambling website with a checkered history, was saying on its site that Winston was being accused by a bookie of point shaving in the first half of the Florida State game at Louisville on October 30th.

The online post at IBN Sports Wrap, used information from an Alabama-based bookie. The bookie claims that Winston’s high school teammate and close friend Chris Rabb, a defensive end at the University of Alabama-Birmingham, placed a $5,000 bet that Florida State would not cover the first half point spread against Louisville. Not only did FSU not cover the first half spread, but the Seminoles were down by 14 at halftime. Rabb allegedly won $5,500 on the bet. Winston led the Seminoles to a second half comeback and a 42-31 victory. The soft first half and strong second half have been somewhat of a recurring theme of this year’s Seminoles team. The bookie told IBN that after paying off the bet, he found out Rabb and Winston were long time friends and that he was convinced he had been taken by the two.

Neither the bookie nor the sports gambling site has provided any proof that Winston was even aware of Rabb’s alleged bet in any way. UAB has acknowledge that they have opened an internal investigation as to whether Rabb was betting on college football games, a NCAA violation, regardless of any other issues in the story.
