Amir Khan: The Fight Floyd Mayweather is Afraid Of

Floyd Mayweather says that he’s “The Greatest boxer of all time”– better than Sugar Ray, Tyson, Frazier, Muhammad Ali. Blasphemous. He has an undefeated record that he cherishes, speed, defense, and the best marketing team we may have ever seen. He also has no heart. Let’s pretend for a second that Floyd wasn’t ducking Manny Pacquiao a couple years back and the fight didn’t happen because Pacquiao didn’t want to be drug tested like Mayweather wants us all to desperately believe. Let’s pretend that if Floyd were to fight Pacquiao he would outbox him and knock Pacquiao out like Marquez did. For the record I don’t believe this would happen but for the sake of argument let’s pretend.

Floyd Mayweather is still not the best boxer right now, even if Pacquiao were out of the picture.  Floyd’s bread and butter is his speed and defensive technique. Defensive technique-wise it is true that Mayweather may be the best in the business. He may even be the best ever. Speed-wise though, there is someone faster. Someone who is not only faster but more aggressive. Someone with a large international following that would pay out huge dividends on pay per view.

That man is Amir Khan, the superstar fighter from Bolton, England. If you want an example of Khan’s speed, prowess, and power, take a look at his fights against Malignaggi, Zab Judah, Carolos Molina, Collazo, and Diaz. He is as talented as he is fearless. They say styles make fights and Khan’s aggressive style versus Mayweather’s defensive one would definitely be one worth watching. Not only that, but ever since Khan recently changed trainers and is now under the tutelageof Virgil Hunter he has learned to pick his spots more selectively. Instead of just being a fighter he has grown into a dominant boxer. He won’t just swing and flail into the web of defensive traps Mayweather likes to set for his handpicked opponents and you best believe Floyd Mayweather knows this.

So whats the hold up? Why hasn’t this fight happened yet? I’ll tell you why, and it’s the same reason the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight hasn’t happened (will it ever happen?): Mayweather’s ducking.

Mayweather doesn’t give a damn about being loved but he does want to be respected and recognized for his greatness. However, you can’t respect a man who keeps ducking and hiding from boxers that will actually give him trouble. Boxers that are in their prime. If Floyd Mayweather wants to be respected he needs to fight Khan next year. The chances are slim that it will happen but if it does happen the fight will be a classic and the young man from Bolton, England will come out on top. You can put your Money on that.
