Thankful for Thanksgiving Football 2014

The CFL has got it right once again. The Argos hosted the Ticats on Friday night in a thrilling 34 to 33 last minute victory for the Argos. A late game with major playoff implications then followed on Saturday night, with BC hosting Ottawa and winning a dominating, offensive matchup.

Sunday is freed up for visit family and friends, do the Thanksgiving traditions, stuff yourself full of turkey. Then it’s pass out from a food coma on Sunday night and wake up on Monday knowing there’s football to look forward to. Perfect.

Thankful for Thanksgiving Football 2014

People in Canada don’t put football and Thanksgiving together the same way our neighbours from the south do, with their triple header of football all day long Thursday.  The CFL’s version is a double header on the holiday Monday, a little quieter a little less hype a little more well Canadian. Either way, it should be a great weekend of football to watch.

Most of the interesting stories are from the East, where if Montreal wins at home against Saskatchewan, they’ll be in a three-way tie for first in the East. A battle which will likely go down to the final week of the season.  The Argos/Ticats battle has earned national headlines after the barn burner they played on Friday, but what’s to stop Montreal from swooping in and stealing the show? Montreal has had a strong defence all season long and quarterback Jonathan Crompton is getting more comfortable week by week.

The second Thanksgiving game features Mike Reilly and the Edmonton Eskimos hosting the struggling Winnipeg Blue Bombers.  Drew Willy and his Winnipeg teammates will likely be in desperation mode as their chances at the playoffs are getting slimmer with each consecutive loss. No reason to think Winnipeg won’t at least make a game of it.

An tasty weekend of football continues as it’s crunch time now and CFL teams will be looking for that Thanksgiving worthy recipe for success.
