Cung Le and the TRT Witch Hunt

At this point, it’s almost a compliment to be accused of being on TRT. It’s the fans way of saying you look better than you did on the last fight.  At least, that’s how Cung Le interprets the criticism that he’s getting from the fans.

Cung Le and the TRT Witch Hunt

The speculation began when Le posted an ode to his own physique on his Instagram page.  According to Le, a combination of better coaches, a better diet, and the constant, vigilant watch of all of those around him had kept him on track to produce the better physical results. In the picture in question, Le claimed that he had just powered through an insane workout where he’d lost a few pounds and was feeling a bit beast mode.-esque. So, the new coaches, diet,  and workout plus some very fortunate lighting made him look so swole that he just had to share it with the world.

According to the Internet, on the other hand, he looked like he had just finished pumping his veins full of man juice and was one drop away from going full-on roid rage. It took mere seconds for the rumor mill to go bananas over the prospect that another MMA elite had fallen victim to the temptation of sweet lady horse-meat. Some were dead sure that he was guilty, using the picture that Cung Le himself had put on the Internet at self-incriminating evidence. Others took a more skeptical approach, calling for pre-fight urine, blood, and possibly bone-marrow (just to be safe) tests to see if indeed the new Cung Le was doing more than just eating more leafy greens and lifting weights.

Let’s be clear here, performance-enhancing drugs are bad for the sport, and it’s good that Dana and his team are finally taking serious steps to rid the octagon of any non-sanctioned help. However, just because a guy spends more time at the gym this go-round doesn’t mean that he should be a suspect on Law and Order: MMA. There are legitimate ways a person can get leaner, even at the ripe young age of 42. No one will know the truth until after the fight on Saturday night. Until then, they’ll just have to settle for an intense match-up against Michael Bisping. Even though a good TRT witch hunt can be fun, that’s not a bad consolation prize.
