Joe Mauer Activated Off 15-Day DL

Some good news for the Minnesota Twins, as Joe Mauer has been activated off the DL and will join the team today. Mauer has been out since July 1st this season with an oblique injury, and his presence has been missed by the Twins.

Mauer, in his limited playing time this season, is hitting .271, with an OBP of .342. Joe also has two home runs, and 28 RBI in 2014 at the MLB level. Mauer’s rehab stint with the Class-A Cedar Rapids went very well, as he went 6-15 for a .400 batting average. His hitting was solid, and that shows that he should be ready to go at the big league level now.

Mauer will start at first base tonight, and will hit third in the lineup. Minnesota has missed his production, and will certainly be happy to have the bat of a former MVP and Silver Slugger back in starting nine.

Earlier on, when the Twins first announced the Mauer would be playing first this season, I wrote an article about how Mauer’s move to first would be beneficial for the Twins because it would reduce his risk of injury and keep him in the lineup. Unfortunately for Minnesota, Joe has still been a victim of the injury bug. Hopefully now he can remain healthy and help the Twins improve.
