Brady Aiken Having Elbow Ligament Issues

Possibly more bad luck for the Astros, as it has been reported that their number one overall pick in the draft, Brady Aiken, has an elbow ligament injury. After the reports of the injury surfaced, Houston decided that they needed to lower their investment on Aiken and they are now re-negotiating his contract with him. They are hoping to reduce his signing bonus, and are hoping that they can still get him signed despite the alleged injury and the reduced bonus.

Evan Drellich from the Houston Chronicle got to talk to Jeff Luhnow, the General Manager of the Astros. Lunhow reportedly said that he is still hopeful the two sides can reach an agreement to make Aiken a Houston Astro. Drellich also spoke with Brady’s trainer, who says that Aiken has no issues and is perfectly healthy.  John Heyman of CBS Sports reported the elbow injury, and also said that this elbow issue has caused Houston to drop Aiken’s signing bonus from $6.5 million to $5 million.

If the reported elbow issues turn out to be actual issues, this is just another mishap in a long line of mishaps that the Astros have had to endure during their rebuild. Houston has not had any luck in this rebuilding process, as it has been very slow so far and has shown minimal signs of improvement. If they continue to get number one pick after number one pick, hopefully Aiken will be the only one with health issues.

If the injury turns out to not be true, and Aiken actually is healthy, the Astros will get another piece of the puzzle that will keep their rebuild moving in the right direction. Slow and steady improvement will eventually get them to the top, but who knows how long it will take.
