Montreal Canadiens trade Daniel Briere to Colorado Avalanche for P.A. Parenteau

The Monrteal Canadiens have traded Daniel Briere to the Colorado Avalanche for P.A. Parenteau and a fifth round pick in 2015.

The 36 year old Briere had one more year on the two year contract he signed last summer with the Canadiens after being bought out by the Philadelphia Flyers. Briere struggled to find a place in the lineup but still found his scoring touch in the post-season, putting up four points in seven games with limited fourth line minutes. Briere will make $4M and had to waive a no movement clause.

P.A. Parenteau, 31, makes the same as Briere but with one more year on his contract. Only two years separated from a 67 point season with the Avalanche, Parenteau saw his minutes and PP time in Colorado decline due to the emergence of Nathan Mackinnon. Parenteau only had 33 points in 55 games with the Avalanche last season. Parenteau is a right handed shot and a natural right winger but can play either wing. Parenteau was rumoured to be moved to the Montreal Canadiens back in March for Rene Bourque.
