LeBron James to Opt-out and Become a Free Agent

Rich Paul, agent of Miami Heat and basketball star LeBron James, has told the team his client will opt-out for early termination. James is set to become a free  agent, easily the most heavily coveted this summer.

This will not necessarily mean he will be leaving South Beach, but the option for him to do so is there.  With a slightly aging line-up, including fellow star Dwayne Wade, he very well might be looking at a potential move as being the optimal time.  With a supporting cast that just didn’t show up for much of the post-season, and especially against the dominant San Antonio Spurs, it just might be the right time for LeBron to continue his legacy in greener pastures.

The potential landing spots are sure to heat-up in the coming weeks, with LA (both teams), Philadelphia, New York and Cleveland amongst those fanbases already staking their claim.

In fact, Twitter is abuzz when James’ wife, Savannah James, referred to a home in Ohio as “home sweet home!!! The countdown is real! #330.” Whether she was more referring to some form of vacation or whether she would take to social networking to out her husband’s suitor, is for now open to interpretation.

Of course the option is there, and if he returns he would be greeted by Cavs fans as if he were Julius Caesar returning from Germania. Whether the star will see the team as good enough to make a run and re-establish his game there, remains to be seen.

The story has been reported by ESPN and USA Today, with Chris Broussard and Sam Amick confirming respectively.
