Georges Niang, Jameel McKay show what they can do in YCCL Night 3

Georges Niang and Jameel McKay had MVP performances in Night 3 of the YMCA Capital City League on Friday Night. The first Overtime game of the season was also played, which determined who took first place in the standings. Read about each game below, and visit twitter (@ycapcity) for the box scores.

Game 1: ADIO Chiropractic (1-2) 113, Coca Cola Bottling Company (0-3) 111
ADIO was appearing to take a 3rd straight loss as they were tied with the clock winding down to the final seconds and without Matt Thomas (ADIO-Iowa State So.) or Monte Morris. (ADIO-Iowa State So.)

With the ball ADIO went for a pass down low and got a floater up that missed. The ball bounced high off the rim when Kale Abrahamson (ADIO-Drake ’15 Jr.) got his hand on it and pushed it in for the game winner. It capped off Abrahamson’s 22 point performance.

On the other side of the ball; Iowa State guys, Dustin Hogue and Sherron Dorsey-Walker, had 42 and 25 points in their loss.

Game 2: *Final/Overtime* Renaissance Granite and Quartz (3-0) 122, Capital Orthopedics 116

Georges Niang (RGQ-Iowa State Jr.) was injured in the first game of the NCAA Tournamnet last season and has come back strong. Grabbing 55 points in the first overtime game of the season, Niang’s average has moved up to 43.0 PPG.

Clayton Custer (CAPO-Iowa State Fr.) isn’t too far short of Niang. Custer recorded 42 points and seven boards.

Capital Ortho had the lead for most of the game, when Niang had a clutch three pointer with two minutes left to tie the game. During the two minute Overtime, Renaissance turned on the jets and pulled ahead to win.

Game 3: Walnut Creek YMCA (2-1) 137, Phoenix Renewable Resources (1-2) 107
Jameel McKay (YMCA-Iowa State Jr.) set a new YMCA Capital City League Record with 32 rebounds in a single game. McKay added 31 points to his impressive rebounding performance while his teammate, Hallice Cooke (YMCA-Iowa State ’15 So.) grabbed his second straight 30 point game.

Phoenix RR had kept the game close until the middle of the second half. That’s when YMCA started to open the game up a little bit. McKay had a few dunks and Letrell Viser (YMCA-Eastern Illinois Sr.) decided to make three triples in a row to put YMCA up big.

Naz long (PRR-Iowa State Jr.) came back from a groin injury trying to keep his team in it, but a 28 point night wasn’t enough as YMCA cruised to their second win of the year.
