Projected Miami Dolphins Offensive Depth Chart

Now that OTAs are about to finish and mandatory mini camp is just a few weeks away, it is time to start thinking about what this Miami Dolphins team will look like heading into training camp. Barring injury or any unforeseen circumstances this Dolphins offense has the chance to be one of the top 10 offenses in the league. Lets take a look at the depth chart as it stands with one week to go in OTAs.

Please Note: The rosters will change when they have to be cut down from 90 to 53, so this may change with a surprise cut, injury, or if someone has a standout training camp.

Dolphins Offensive Depth Chart

Quarterback

    1. Ryan Tannehill-3rd year out of Texas A&M
    2. Matt Moore-8th year out of Oregon St.
    3. Pat Devlin-4th year out of Delaware
    4. Brock Jensen-Rookie out of North Dakota St.

This is Ryan Tannehill’s team and will be for the near future. Matt Moore is a serviceable backup who can come in when needed and win you a game or two so I expect him to stay as the #2. The big battle at the QB position will be between Pat Devlin and Brock Jensen. Devlin hasn’t played at all in his NFL career, so we don’t know what he has, but the rookie Brock Jensen comes from a winning pedigree at North Dakota St. I expect Brock Jensen to be the #3 QB with Devlin either being cut or being sent to the practice squad.

Running Back

  1. Knowshon Moreno-6th year out of Georgia
  2. Lamar Miller-3rd year out Miami (Fla.)
  3. Daniel Thomas-4th year out of Kansas St.
  4. Marcus Thigpen-3rd year out of Indiana
  5. Mike Gillislee-2nd year out of Florida
  6. Damien Williams-Rookie out of Oklahoma
  7. Orleans Darkwa-Rookie out of Tulane

There are reports that Moreno has come to OTAs a little out of shape and overweight and that Lamar Miller has been getting most of the first team reps, if this continues I would not be surprised to see Miller start the year at the #1 back. I do think at some point this season that Moreno will be the #1 RB it just might not be Week 1 now. Training camp will shed a little more light on the RB situation in Miami. The one person who is happy about Moreno struggling is Daniel Thomas who may just be able to stay on the team if Moreno does not perform. Marcus Thigpen is going to make this roster and be the #4 back, but will be the primary return man. The rookie out of Oklahoma, Damien Williams, will be the fourth back kept on this roster and the #3 back on the depth chart. Williams is a solid player who let character issues get the best of him, which is why he went undrafted. RB should be the position that is most improved this upcoming season.

Wide Receiver

      1. Brian Hartline-6th year out of Ohio St.
      2. Mike Wallace-6th year out of Mississippi
      3. Brandon Gibson-6th year out of Washington St.
      4. Armon Binns-3rd year out of Cincinnati
      5. Damian Williams-5th year out of USC
      6. Jarvis Landry-Rookie out of LSU
      7. Rishard Matthews-3rd year out of Nevada
      8. Matt Hazel-Rookie out of Coastal Carolina
      9. Stephen Williams-4th year out of Toledo
      10. Rantavious Wooten-Rookie out of Georgia
      11. Kevin Cone-4th year out of Georgia Tech
      12. Ryan Spadola-2nd year out of Lehigh

In order for the Dolphins to be successful this season they need better production out of their wide receivers, especially Mike Wallace. With a year of chemistry under his belt with QB Ryan Tannehill I expect Wallace to be as good as he was with the Steelers this season. Brian Hartline, rookie Jarvis Landry, and Brandon Gibson will provide depth at WR and do not be surprised if rookie Matt Hazel, Armon Binns, Rishard Matthews, and Damian Williams contribute this year as well.

Tight End

      1. Charles Clay-4th year out of Tulsa
      2. Dion Sims-2nd year out of Michigan St.
      3. Michael Egnew-3rd year out of Missouri
      4. Kyle Miller-2nd year out of Mount Union
      5. Emmanuel Ogbuehi-2nd year out of Georgia St
      6. Harold Hoskins-Rookie out of Marshall
      7. Arthur Lynch-Rookie out of Georgia

Charles Clay had a breakout year and looks like a top 10 TE in the league. Arthur Lynch, Dion Sims, and Michael Egnew will provide depth. Lynch will mostly be a blocker and red zone guy, and may even cost Sims a roster spot, but that is unlikely. Michael Egnew is looking for consistency this season, but should still contribute a little.

Left Tackle

      1. Branden Albert-7th year out of Virginia
      2. Billy Turner-Rookie out of North Dakota St.

Left Guard

      1. Shelley Smith-5th year out of Colorado St.
      2. Nate Garner-7th year out of Arkansas
      3. Evan Finkenberg-Rookie out of Arizona St.

Center

      1. Mike Pouncey-4th year out of Florida
      2. Sam Brenner-2nd year out of Utah
      3. Tyler Larsen-Rookie out of Utah St.
      4. Sam Longo-Rookie out of Cincinnati

Right Guard

      1. Dallas Thomas-2nd year out of Tennessee
      2. David Arkin-3rd year out of Missouri St.

Right Tackle

      1. Ja’Wuan James-Rookie out of Tennessee
      2. Jason Fox-5th year out Miami (Fla.)
      3. Michael Phillipp-Rookie out of Oregon St.
      4. Davonte Wallace-Rookie out of New Mexico St.

The Dolphins are going to have a pretty solid offensive line this year. Branden Albert is a top 10 offensive tackle and was a great free agent pick up. Mike Pouncey will return and be his normal solid self at the center position. Shelley Smith will be solid at LG. The first round draft pick in this years draft for the Dolphins was Ja’Wuan James from Tennessee and he should slide right into the right tackle position and be good. Billy Turner is currently listed as the backup tackle, but I expect him to be the starting left guard when the season starts. Dallas Thomas, Jason Fox, Nate Garner, and Tyler Larsen will be formidable back ups. This unit will be a lot better then it was at the end of last season.

A lot of the Dolphins success this year will hinge on the development of Ryan Tannehill. It is year three so it is time to see what he is really made of. Tannehill and WR Mike Wallace need to find some chemistry if this offense has any chance of being above average. Newly acquired RB Knowshon Moreno will help spark a dreadful running game and the offensive line should be pretty solid this year. Dolphins fans should be very intrigued by the offense this year.
