Pochettino favourite for Spurs Job

Having recently been labelled the favourite to replace sacked Tim Sherwood, Southampton owner Katharina Liebherr held a board meeting on Wednesday night with Tottenham Hotspur (with the club expressing their desires to speak to manager Mauricio Pochettino).

Mauricio Pochettino has only one year remaining on his deal with his current club, who were ready to extend his agreement both in length and financially.

However, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is determined to install his target on a £3.5 million-a-year contract.

Pochettino Style Of Play:

Pochettino favours a very high pressing attacking style of football, usually playing a 4-2-3-1 formation. As well as this he also instructs his team to build pressure from the back, intimidate and unsettle opponents easily. The South American has also received praise by many pundits and fans for his attentive focus on developing players from the clubs’ youth academies. Furthermore, last season, he led the Saints to notable victories against Liverpool (a 3-1 win at home) and a 2-1 victory against Chelsea, also at St Mary’s. Pochettino has further led them to their highest ever Premier League points tally which is a remarkable achievement considering its his first season in English football.

Spurs legend Glen Hoddle believes Pochettino would be a great acquisition for Tottenham having recently said “He has done a brilliant job at Southampton and I think he would be a very good acquisition for Tottenham. I’ve been very impressed with the way he’s had Southampton playing this year and I think, with the squad at Tottenham, he could do real wonders there.”

Tottenham initially enquired about Dutch master Louis Van Gaal, however Manchester United also seemed pretty keen on the Dutchman and on Monday 19th May, it was announced that Van Gaal would be the Manchester United boss in the coming season. The North London club had also considered former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti but the current Real Madrid boss looks set to continue at the La Liga side.

There remains interest in Ajax boss Frank De Boer but it seems Pochettino is the man that Spurs want.
