Seahawks show Richard Sherman the money

Richard Sherman has been talking about how he’s the best corner in the NFL and now the Seahawks have put money where his mouth is today when they announced a four-year, $57.4 million extension ($40 million of that is guaranteed) that’s sure to make Sherman the highest paid corner in the league.

For weeks rumors have been swirling that a deal was close at hand between the 26-year-old, also known by fans as Optimus Prime, and the Hawks. Today, the handshake between the team and their most talkative player was made public.

Sherman is well-known for saying exactly what he thinks and made national news after the NFC Championship game where Seattle beat the San Francisco 49ers 23-17 after he called 49er receiver, Michael Crabtree, mediocre. “Don’t you ever talk about me,” statement was heard around the globe and if you believe that imitation is the best form of flattery, Sherm received just that when President Barack Obama did an attempt at a Richard Sherman impersonation at last week’s White House Correspondence dinner.

Although Sherman is well known for shaming Tom Brady with his infamous “You mad bro?” tweet after the Seahawks made a mockery of the New England Patriots back in 2012 and his “I live life better than you,” remarks to Skip Bayless, he definitely can walk the walk along with talking the talk. This 6’ 3” Stanford grad can play some ball. In his three years in the NFL, Sherman has had 138 tackles and and 20 interceptions.

Sherman and the rest of Seattle’s infamous defense known as the Legion of Boom made Denver’s number one offense look like a high school squad during their 43-8 win at this year’s Super Bowl and Seattle has made lucrative deals with the other LOB members Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor.

The recent lucrative deals made with both Thomas and Sherman may be clue as to why the Seahawks stayed rather mum during the NFL’s free agency. They invested in the talent they already have and are preparing for next year when Russell Wilson will be up for contract negotiation.

Now that Seattle has secured the Legion of Boom, all eyes will be looking to see what moves are made during the draft. One thing is for certain, Seattle’s defense is in a good place so maybe there will be some focus to build that offensive line. Will John Schneider and Pete work their third-round magic again?
