Tottenham Need Upgrades in the Summer Transfer Window

Tottenham Hotspur kicked off the start of the season with an incredible run of form. Hugo Lloris had the most clean sheets in Europe and the Tottenham defence also had the best record in Europe, but Tottenham have crumbled since then.

In the Summer transfer window, Tottenham brought in seven new players from across the world, players like Paulinho, Erik Lamela, Christian Eriksen, Nacer Chadli, Vlad Chiriches, Roberto Soldado and Etienne Capoue. Tottenham used their £100 million worth of transfer money on seven players of which many people haven’t really heard of.

Eriksen has been prolific for Tottenham’s season so far. He has currently scored 8 goals and has 6 assists, which for a team like Tottenham, who have struggled to find the back of the net this season is outstanding.

Tottenham need to do business this transfer window otherwise they are in big trouble. Tottenham need a left back replacement for Danny Rose as he just isn’t good enough for first team football in this Tottenham side. Teams like Manchester United, Chelsea and even Real Madrid have been watching 18-year old maestro Luke Shaw from Southampton, who recently received his first England call-up.

It’s understood that the transfer fee for Luke Shaw may be worth over £25m for the youngster and I personally would bring him in. He’s incredible for his age and he is a quality left-back that would slot in nicely in our team. Tottenham have such inexperienced left backs since they loaned Benoit Assou-Ekotto out to Queens Park Rangers and bringing Luke Shaw in would be great not only as a crucial first team player but also as backup for injured players.

Tottenham are also lacking central defenders, as they have had many injuries this season in the defence department, Tottenham need to spend money on an experienced centre back. With Younes Kaboul and Michael Dawson suffering from ongoing injuries, we cannot only have four central defenders. Jan Vertonghen was out for two months, Vlad Chiriches was out for 2-3 months, and Tottenham have really struggled this season.

I believe we should bring back in Steven Caulker. On his contact at Cardiff it says if Cardiff get relegated then Tottenham can buy back Steven Caulker for £10 million, which is cheap for a player like Caulker. He has only recently had his first England call up and he had a good debut for England, in which he also scored. Caulker has been Cardiff best defensive player by miles and I believe we should bring him back for next season as he will be important for the first team squad.

Tottenham have been rumoured to be in for Dnipro wonder kid Yehven Konoplyanka. He played Tottenham at Dnipro’s ground and he looked very impressive. Liverpool are also in the bidding race for Konoplyanka but the chairman of Dnirpo does not want Konoplyanka to go to Liverpool as he would ‘prefer’ to live in London.

Konoplyanka, who has 36 Ukraine caps, has scored 34 goals in 158 Dnipro appearances in all competitions. Tottenham really need that replacement for Gareth Bale as they have yet to find the player who could fulfill his role. And with Lamela out for the whole season we have struggled on the wing forcing Tottenham to play two right midfield players on each side. There is no confirmation on how much Konoplyanka will cost but I’m sure he will be worth it and Tottenham will sign him.

There are many strikers out there that would fit in perfectly at Tottenham. Last season Tottenham were fighting for that killer bid for Christian Benteke but Paul Lambert was having none of it and he managed to keep Benteke at Aston Villa. The Birmingham club have had a very shaky season and so has Benteke, only scoring ten goals this season compared to last season where he bagged 19 goals in the league.

Christian Benteke and Emmanuel Adebayor could be one of the best striker partnerships in the league as they are so alike but Benteke is more powerful. Also Benteke could learn from Adebayor as he is older and much more experienced across the country. Tottenham should pay whatever Paul Lambert asks for Benteke unless it Is over £30 million for the Belgian.
