Giants Add A New Dimension With Trindon Holliday

After winning the Super Bowl in 2011, the New York Giants have become cold in their last two seasons, missing the playoffs in both 2012 and 2013. With disappointment comes attempts to improve the roster in the off-season.

And the Giants’ adding Texans and Broncos star kick returner Trindon Holliday certainly does not disappoint, adding a whole new dimension to the G-Men’s game plan.

In 2013, the Giants ranked 17th in kickoff return yards (933) and 22nd in punt return yards (246). Holliday in 2013 put up 775 of the Broncos’ 974 kick return yards and 271 of the team’s 343 punt return yards. It’s clear that the addition of a great returner adds new possibilities for New York.

Trindon Holliday in his four-year career has been a part of sending four teams to the playoffs (he got traded to Denver mid-season in 2012 by Houston). With six career touchdown returns (four in the regular season, two in the postseason), Holliday has proven reliable on NFL teams, and in 2013 was 5th in average yards per kickoff returns (27.7).

Most famously, Holliday returned two touchdowns in an AFC Divisional Playoff game against the Baltimore Ravens in 2013, including a kickoff return to start the second half of the game. Holliday’s tremendous speed and ability to find gaps, outrun defenders, and cut corners without breaking a sweat has made him a feared and dangerous returner.

The main requirement of a kick returner is to put the offensive in terrific field position, or, score touchdowns. With the addition on Trindon Holliday on the roster, it looks as if NYG will do just that. Denver lost a key player in Holliday, and it would be in the best interest of the Giants to keep him healthy and consistent in the offseason.

So far, the Big Blue View has done wonders in free agency, picking up Quintin Demps (another excellent returner), Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Walter Thurmond, and now Trindon Holliday. The Giants look really good on paper; can they paint that vision on the field in 2014? We shall soon find out.
